wired.MD®, Inc. and DynoMed™ Inc. Announce Strategic Alliance

Patient Education Innovators Partner To Provide Most Comprehensive New Media Patient Education Tool Available

wired.MD, Inc. announced today the updated release of the 2.0 version of the streaMed Patient Education Solution, which will combine the video/text content library and delivery technology of wired.MD with the award winning DynoMed video/text content library. The combination of the two libraries will create the most effective and comprehensive new media patient education tool available today. wired.MD's streaMed packages currently are available for 18 medical specialties including Family Medicine, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, etc.

The streaMed Patient Education Solution uses a combination of full motion video, medical animations, graphical representations and narrative educators to provide supplementary patient education at the point of care. streaMed is used within the exam room, a patient education room, and a patient's home to educate patients on diagnoses, treatment plans and procedures. After patients view a provider-directed video at the point of care, they then receive a printed text transcript of the video and an 8-digit Information Prescription® code. The Information Prescription Code allows patients and their family members to review the video from their personal computer on an Access-Secured Website customized for the physician following the visits at both low and high bandwidth. Patients can then see related videos, complete feedback patient satisfaction surveys and email their providers with questions from the Website.

Mark Friess, CEO of wired.MD states, "Providing physician-directed video content throughout the entire educational continuum is the model of both DynoMed and wired.MD. This relationship will ultimately allow us both to target larger segments of the healthcare market, impact more healthcare organizations and touch more patients lives."

"We have had great success in developing unique and widely accepted content as has wired.MD. We are confident that this relationship will only further leverage our combined content and facilitate its delivery to providers and their patients," says Jim Strickland, President of DynoMed, Inc.

Users within the healthcare community will see these critical needs met by the updated streaMed Patient Education Solution:

Increased Patient Satisfaction - Patients feel as though physicians and healthcare organizations who use streaMed are innovative and dedicated to providing a premium level of service.

Increased Compliance - Studies show video learning conventions are a highly effective method of delivering patient education, increasing information retention by up to 16 times over text alone.

Streamlined Clinical Workflow - By utilizing videos prior to the physician entering the exam room streaMed leads to a better prepared patient and relieving nurses and physicians from reoccurring educational tasks.

Time Savings - streaMed reduces and often alleviates the need for physicians to provide mundane and repetitive explanations about diagnoses and procedures regularly saving upwards of 5 to 10 minutes per encounter.

The 2.0 release of the streaMed Patient Education Solution includes 230 new media videos, 1150 associated text handouts, customized physician websites, feedback surveys and optional email communication for physicians and healthcare organizations. streaMed has videos in 7 languages and is packaged for 18 medical specialties. Additional videos and features are under development for release during Q3 2002.

Healthcare organizations can use streaMed to supplement their educational consultations and to save time without disrupting the daily workflow of the medical staff. streaMed can be installed directly into an organization's existing hardware and network infrastructure and requires a standard Internet connection. The software works seamlessly at both high and low bandwidth at the point of care and in the patient's home. The software is designed for ease-of-use and for access anywhere and at anytime by healthcare providers and their patients.
